Once
again our local Fargo law enforcement agencies
stepped up to provide a happy holiday season
for 29 area children.
Thanks
to the generosity of many area law enforcement
officers and business sponsors of the Red
River Valley Lodge’s Annual Golf Tourney along
with the McDonalds Restaurant on 38th
St. SW, Fargo, 20+ children were able to
experience some holiday cheer. The
McDonalds Restaurant donated Happy Meals for
each child, along with coupons for additional
McDonalds treats. The meals came after the 10+
squad car convoy slowly carried the little
tikes from their shopping sprees at the
Wal-Mart store here in Fargo. The FOP
donated $100.00 per child for them to spend on
various gifts of their choosing.
The
Fraternal Order of Police with volunteer
representatives from Cass County Sheriff’s
Office, Fargo Police Department, and West
Fargo Police Department shared an afternoon
with area children. Also, our local
Micro-soft office provided gift wrap and a
dozen or more employees to do the wrapping
right in the Wal-Mart store after the
purchases were complete. The Wal-Mart store
also donated $200.00 for the worthy event.
It was
another heart-warming experience to see the
children’s eyes sparkle with enthusiasm,
excitement and anticipation. Most of the
children who participated purchased gifts for
their families or close friends. (Remembering
it’s better to give than to receive)
It’s
really nice seeing many of the same officers
participate year after year. If you have
not experienced our Shop with a Cop program
first hand, I encourage you to volunteer with
your local lodges program next season.
It takes only but a few hours, but the rewards
are endless.
