    2005 National Conference/New Orleans

In August 2005 members from the Grand Forks Lodge Fraternal Order of Police attended the National Convention which was held in New Orleans, Louisiana. Members were kept busy throughout the week attending business sessions of the FOP Grand Lodge, Western States and ND State Lodge. In addition to the business meetings, members participated in the elections of the new FOP Grand Lodge Executive Board and attended training workshops on various topics related to law enforcement and the FOP.

                                                "SHAKING IT" TEEN DANCE 2005

On Friday, May 20th 2005 the Grand Forks FOP lodge held its first ever teen dance. The dance was not only intended to be a fund raiser but also a way to give teens the opportunity to have something to do on a weekend night. The kids had formed a line outside and once the doors opened they rushed inside in hopes of getting a good spot up front. Music for the dance was provided by "Rockin the house" which included an 8,000 watt bass pumping system so needless to say it was loud and the kids enjoyed it.

Several small groups of kids danced the night away and some made new friends. At the end of the night the groups were put into a circle where a dance contest was held with the winner receiving a free prize courtesy of XL-93 FM. Several chaperons were on hand and assisted with taking tickets, selling concessions, providing security and with the clean up afterwards. When the night had ended all the kids stated they had a great time and could not wait until the next dance.

                                                       Fundraiser Basketball

On March 20th, 2005 our lodge held a fundraiser basketball game with the main attraction being Curly Neil who was a member of the Harlem Globetrotters for a number of years. The event was well attended with nearly 1,000 spectators packing the East Grand Forks High School gymnasium. After a fun filled game, participants then joined together for lunch at Happy Joe’s pizza parlor.

Grand Forks Lodge #2 conducts the 6th annual Shop with a Cop
Jason Dvorak, President

On Saturday, December 20th, 2003 the Grand Forks Lodge of the Fraternal Order of Police took 17 children ranging in age from 4 years old to 13 years old shopping at Walmart for our 5th annual "Shop with a Cop" program. The children bought lots of toys and that "special" gift for Mom and Dad. One child even bought his puppy a present. While waiting for the group to finish picking out their presents, several of the kids and FOP members enjoyed a "slushy" drink from the cafeteria.

Shop With a Cop

The two hour shopping spree came to an end with twelve shopping carts going through the checkout lanes. All the toys were bagged up and after rounding up all the children we then went to Happy Joe’s Pizza Parlor. All the gifts were then wrapped and we then enjoyed several pizza’s and pop. Thank you to all FOP members, spouses and mother in law for helping make this event so special. Also, thanks to Walmart, Happy Joe’s and everyone else who donated money to this terrific event.

"STUFF THE SQUAD"

Members of the Grand Forks Lodge Fraternal Order of Police collected over 350 toys in the "Stuff the Squad" campaign. The toys came from both FOP members and non-members. The selection of toys was for both girls and boys of all ages. On December 1st, 2006 members of the Grand Forks FOP lodge loaded the toys into the NDFOP car and delivered the toys to the Salvation Army to distribute as needed. The Grand Forks FOP lodge would like to say "Thank You" to everyone who donated toys to this worthy cause.
